A lot of complaint calls to Madison Metro Monday. Not because of late buses or anything like that, but because of a new image plastered on the outside of the vehicles.

PETA is behind an ad targeted at animal research at the U-W. It features a cat with a metal bar screwed to it's head and the message " I'm not lab equipment" .

Metro spokesman Mick Rusch says PETA threatened legal action. Metro does have a policy on obscene and libelous ads, but Rusch says the policy is 20 years old and may need updating.

The group paid $12,000 for the ad, which will run for 8 weeks.

The U-W Monday released a statement saying the picture being used is from a pilot study four years ago.
