Police say two men entered the home, then shot Majette and her husband, who is identified by family as Daunte Vance. Vance survived, but Majette died at the scene; a scene some of Majette's young kids witnessed.
Tracey Cherry, Majette's mom, tells NBC 15 her daughter had big plans for the future. She says Majette was just accepted into the Odyssey Project. The program allows low-income adults to receive free college credit with UW Madison. Majette wanted to go back to school so could be a nurse. She also wanted to follow in her mom's footsteps. Cherry just graduated from Odyssey. She recalls the joyous occasion spent with her daughter.
"She gave me a big hug and a kiss and told me that she was proud of me and she wanted me to keep going on to continue my education” says Cherry.
Police believe the shooting was targeted, but don't yet have a motive.
Meanwhile, two suspects still remain on the loose. Cherry has this to say to her daughter's killer(s).
"I hope that you will come to the light and turn yourself in because my daughter and son-in-law hasn't done anything. And thank God you didn't do anything to my grand kids. And I just want you to know that ya'll are very wrong. And I hope ya'll feel guilty on the inside and turn yourselves in and in the long run, God will take care of you” says Cherry.
