When was the last time you updated your resume? According to experts it's time to update it even if you don't plan on leaving your job any time soon.
While it was expected to have a summary or objective statement at the top of your resume in the past, you can now remove it from your resume, which will give you even more free space to show your skills off.
Here are some of the sections you need to remove from your resume, and the reasoning behind it, to not look dated anymore:
- Summary statements -You’re already using bullet points to list your responsibilities and accomplishments for your past jobs, no need to double down with it and add a long preface. Give your employer some credit.
- Objective statements -Save yourself the printer ink and avoid the dated “objective statement” section. The hiring manager already gathered that your real ‘objective’ is to get a job.
- What you’re looking for in a job -Your resume is your opportunity to show off what you bring to the table, not demand things before you even get an interview.
Now get out there and get that new job!
