Don't Ruin Your Wine, Six Places You Should Never Keep A Bottle Of Vino

Stop ruining your wine. A wine fridge is a perfect place to store bottles of wine, but if you don't have one, there are other spots around the house that are good spots...and some that are NOT good.

According to a couple of sommeliers, wine needs a cool, dark, stable environment, and the wrong spot can spoil reds, whites, or sparkling wines faster than you’d expect. They've listed six places you should never keep a bottle of wine:

  • On top of the refrigerator: Refrigerators give off heat and vibrate, which accelerate aging and degrade quality.

  • Anywhere in the kitchen: Experts say the kitchen changes temperatures all the time thanks to ovens, dishwashers and other appliances.

  • In the car: Maybe you just left the wine store and put the bottles in the trunk while running other errands. That is a no-no. Wine should be taken home immediately. Being in the car too long exposes it to extreme temperatures. Try keeping it in an insulated bag.

  • Somewhere for it to age: Not all wines improve with age. In fact, most of the wines you're bringing home should be opened and enjoyed right away.
  • The garage: It's dark and usually pretty cool, but experts say there are too many temperature swings that could ruin your wine.
