Mistakes to Avoid at a New Job

Career experts came up with a list of the worst mistakes you can make at a new job. Here is what they suggest you avoid doing:

  1. Acting like you know everything. If you're worried you seem incompetent if you ask too many questions, ASK. Ignoring that instinct will just slow you down and keep you from learning how things operate.
  2. Being anti-social. Put yourself out there even if you're shy. Talk to people to build connections. Who knows, maybe this could lead to a new opportunity or future promotion.
  3. Talking bad about your old job. Negativity can make a bad first impression. Try to be positive about your new gig and think of it as a fresh start.
  4. Talking about how things were done better at your old job. Drawing from previous experiences can be tempting especially when you think it could help make improvements. Be careful you don't do it too much. Try to find a balance between being helpful and providing comparisons.
