WATCH: Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Woman From Burning Car

An off-duty firefighter rescues a woman from a burning car. This past weekend after his shift with the White Plains Fire Department, firefighter Nicholas Perri Jr was driving home through Brookfield, Connecticut, when he saw a car on fire on the side of the road. Perri immediately pulled over to see if he could help and soon realized someone was still inside the vehicle.

Without any protective gear, he ran toward the blaze. After assessing the situation, he broke the car’s window and pulled the badly injured driver out of the wreckage just as the passenger compartment was engulfed in flames. Perri was moving the woman away from the fire when the Brookfield Fire Department arrived on scene. Brookfield Fire Chief Andrew Ellis was the first to arrive and says that if Perri hadn’t helped, “There was no way that the victim would have survived.”

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery and Perri was treated for minor injuries at the scene. White Plains Deputy Fire Chief Leonard Bonadies says he wasn’t surprised when he heard what Perri had done. “Once I heard that it was Nick involved … He was always going to do the right thing,” he said. “I knew she was in good hands with Nick.”
