You never know how a first date will turn out, sometimes it’s full of all the sparks you could hope for, and other times you can’t wait to get out of there to go home and put on your pajamas and never talk to that person again. But what if you show up and the date looks or acts nothing like the person you met on the apps? It turns out, when that happens, a lot of daters don’t stick around just to be polite.
A new survey from Datingadvice.com asked 1,016 U.S. singles if they would ever leave a date early and what would make them walk out.
- Bad behavior is the most common reason for ditching a date early, as nearly half (49%) say they’ve had to leave for this reason.
- That’s almost double the number of people who’ve walked out of a date because of misleading photos (26%).
- It’s about the same for men and women, as 48.8% of men and 49.2% of women have left when a date behaved badly, and 26.7% of men and 26.2% of women called it quits early because their date looked different in person than in photos.
- But it’s parents with young kids who seem to have the lowest tolerance for bad behavior from their date, as nearly two-thirds (65%) have ditched a date over this.
- And 41% of them have walked out when a date didn’t look like their profile pics.
- Younger daters were also more likely to walk away early, as 29% of those under age 35 say they’ve ended a date over misleading photos.
- While 51% of all respondents say they stayed for the rest of the date, some called it quits soon after, including one in 10 who say they cut off contact, blocked or deleted their date’s contact immediately after the date.
