For the third straight season, the Wisconsin Badgers football team will kick off their season on a Friday night. For the first time in that stretch, it will be on the road, however, as the Badgers play USF on Friday, August 30, in Tampa.
The announcement came via social media on Thursday, as it has the past two seasons in which Wisconsin has announced their opener to be played the Friday leading into Labor Day weekend.
In 2018, Wisconsin throttled Western Kentucky 34-3 . Back in 2017, the Badgers blasted Utah State 59-10 in a Friday night opener.
From 2014-2016, the Badgers opened up their season against SEC schools LSU (2014 and 2016) and Alabama (2015) on neutral sites in opening-weekend showcases on Saturdays. In 2011, the Badgers played a Thursday night opener against UNLV, Prior to this now-three year stretch of Friday openers, the last time Wisconsin opened the season on a Friday night was 2002, against Fresno State.
