Ethan Happ named consensus second-team All-American

Ethan Happ’s career has been full of historic milestones and he added another Tuesday when the Wisconsin senior earned consensus second-team All-American accolades. Happ’s consensus honor is comprised of second-team All-American selections from the Associated Press, The Sporting News, the NABC and the USBWA.

Happ, who was also a AP third-team All-American in 2017, is the first two-time AP All-American in Wisconsin.

Happ becomes the 23rd player in Wisconsin history to earn first or second-team All-America status and the first since Frank Kaminsky was a consensus first-team selection in 2015.

Averaging 17.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, Happ was the nation's only player to average at least 16.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 4.0 apg. In fact, in the last 20 years, the NCAA's only other player to average those marks was LSU's All-American Ben Simmons (19.2 ppg, 11.8 rpg, 4.8 apg).

Happ ranked eighth in the NCAA with 21 double-doubles, matching the Wisconsin school record that has stood for 50 years (Joe Franklin, 21 in 1967-68). Happ ranked fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, third in rebounding, third in assists, ninth in blocks, 14th in steals, 11th in FG pct. and eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio.

With 2,130 points, 1,217 rebounds and 423 assists, Happ is one of six players in NCAA history to accumulate at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 400 assists. He joins Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Danny Ferry, Stacey Augmon and John Konchar.

The Milan, Illinois, native finished his career 18th in Big Ten history with 2,118 points and third with 1,209 boards. Happ owns the Wisconsin school record for rebounds and blocks and ranks among UW's all-time top three in each of the five major statistically categories: points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals.
