Badgers Pull Away From Colgate With 67-60 Victory In NCAA First Round

That game was far closer than any Badger fan was hoping for or expecting. The 3-seeded Wisconsin Badgers pulled out a 67-60 victory over the 14-seeded Colgate Raiders in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

There were some nervous times for the Badgers, who were effectively playing on a home court in Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum. Colgate grabbed an early lead and they were able to hold on for a 28-28 tie at halftime.

Colgate made five straight three point attempts early in the second half and they were going shot-for-shot with the Badgers. Each time Wisconsin was building momentum, Colgate seemed to have an answer.

Then, after the 10:40 mark in the second half, Colgate went cold as the Badgers turned up the defensive pressure, covering the three point line and forcing more desperate shots from the Raiders.

Wisconsin started to hit more shots and went on a 10-0 run, seizing the lead and holding on to it for the remainder of the game with an emphatic breakaway dunk from Johnny Davis as well.

Davis took over down the stretch, finishing with 25 points, including the final 14 points of the game for Wisconsin. Davis also added eight rebounds and was 5-5 from the free throw line. Tyler Wahl also had 15 points and 9 boards.

Nelly Cummings was the leading scorer for Colgate with 20 points. Tucker Richardson had 15 points, all coming on threes, going 5-10 from beyond the arc.

The Badgers will face 11 seed Iowa State in the second round. That game is on Sunday and tips off at 5:10 pm.
