Asking someone to marry you and having them say no is a nightmare scenario for most of us. That kind of rejection is hard to take, but one man didn’t let it stop him from marrying the woman of his dreams. In fact, Luke Wintrip hung in there, proposing to his now-wife, Sarah, 43 times over seven years before she finally said “yes!”
He started out eager, popping the question for the first time very early in their relationship, and she quickly turned him down. “I just said, ‘No, we’ve only been together for six months,’” Sarah recalls. She loved him, she just wasn’t ready, but Luke persisted. He planned elaborate proposals over the course of their seven-year relationship, renting a castle in Prague, arranging candlelit dinners and a horseback-riding trip, and each time she said no.
When he asked her to be his wife the 42nd time, Sarah promised, “Next time you ask, I’m going to say ‘yes,’ but just you wait.” So, he did, and after a year passed, Luke took her to Greenwich in South East London, and tried one more time, telling her, “This is the center of the world and you are the center of the world and I want you to marry me.” The 43rd time was the charm and she finally said “Yes!” After a long-awaited destination wedding in Jamaica, the couple is finally Mr. and Mrs. Wintrip.
